I'm replacing the tub seal on a Maytag washer. The tub is slightly rusted. Does anyone have a tried and true method for stopping its spread? Product?
Thanks.

I don't think you will find anything to stop the rust. I would normally recommend replacing the tub, part #
22001114
but as you can see it's no longer available so that is not even a option.
If I was replacing the tub seal I would point out the rust to the customer (maybe it's your own washer) and let them decide from there if they want to go ahead with the repair. The last thing I need is a call back on a leaky tub that rusted out shortly after I replaced the tub seal.

If the tub seal opening is good and the rust is mostly on the surface you can treat the rust with phosphoric acid, found in the rust treatment area in paint stores. It will kill the rust. Then spray the affected area with a good enamel paint.
