Maytag Dryer Noise
« on: December 26, 2011, 04:30:11 PM »

I got a hold of this Maytag dryer.  It had no heat.  I fixed it by replacing the igniter.  Now I'm noticing this odd noise that sounds like a compressor running.  You can hear the noise in this video:

Is it the blower fan?

Also I'm hearing some what of a click or pop sound coming from the timer.  I've never noticed a sound like it before.  It advances just fine.  I just hear the noise every few minutes or so.

I'll get the model# when ever I get enough energy to go back down stairs.  :)

That is a scrub sound. Check your glides.

The glides looked fine, but I replaced the rear felt because the old one looked a bit chewed up.  I wonder if that could be it?  I'll keep playing with it.

That scrub sounds like thin glides

Do these look too thin?  I've never had to replace the glides on a Maytag before:

I didn't think they looked bad.  After opening it back up, I noticed the blower wheel seemed to be a little loose.  The noise quiets when I hook the vent on also.  I'm going to replace the blower wheel and see if that will fix it.

The blower wheel had a slight crack.  There was also some dirt and lint trapped behind it.  Replaced the blower wheel and it sounds much better.
