I have a Whirlpool Duet dryer that is producing no heat but is working otherwise fine. It stopped producing heat last week when my wife put in a load of wet towels. Trying to troubleshoot this and repair myself and looking for some help.
I went into diagnostic mode (more time-less time-more time-less time) and it displayed 88, hit start and it showed a 6. I also flipped the breaker on and off about 5 times and tried unplugging and plugging it back in the dryer.
I borrowed a multimeter and disconnected the dryer from the wall. Measuring the thermal fuse after disconnecting the wires it displayed 0.
According to a tech sheet in my dryer I found I tried the heater test. It says to measure from the red wire of the thermal cut off to one of the red wires of the heater. I did this with and without the wires connected and both times I got no reading on the multimeter.
I then tried to measure each of the three different parts there isolated. I disconnected both leads from each and the heater element gave a reading of 9.8. The high limit thermostat displayed a 0. And the thermal cut off got no reading.
Is the problem a faulty thermal cut off?
