Give your outside unit a quick lookover.
« on: April 02, 2008, 10:52:51 AM »

Before you know it, summer will be here soon. Go outside and give your air conditioning unit a quick going over. Look for small limbs and leaves around it. Give the unit a good rinse with a garden hose. Make sure the fan motor turns freely. You may want to oil the motor with some zoomoil(2 bucks at any hardware store). Get all the weeds and debris that accumulated over the winter away from around the unit. Have someone turn the ac on while you are right there at it so that if it does something weird you can shut it down right there at the unit.(a pullout or breaker will be a few feet from most units). By doing this you can save a ton of money. Catching a bad capacitor or busted contactor right away is the key to saving big bucks. All the stuff I just mentioned can be done easily by you and does not require a guy in a fancy truck to come out and charge you 100 bucks. The most he may do is oil the motors and check the freon level.  O0
