Compressor not working Fedders C10
« on: June 16, 2011, 11:30:25 PM »

I have a 6 year old 3.5 ton Fedders AC unit. When I started it first time this year, the air was not cooling at all. I called a technician and he measured the pressures on the high pressure and low pressure lines and showed me they were equal. This indicated to him that the compressor is dead and I need either a new compressor or a new unit.

I checked all electrical connections to the compressor and all seems OK.

Should I accept the fact that the compressor is dead?

I heard that it may not run because it shuts-off automatically if it is low on freon. Is that a valid assumption?

Thanks for any help

If the compressor was running when he did the checks and the pressures were the same then yeppers the valves inside the compressor ain't pumpin. If the pressure was low then a low pressure cutout switch would kill power to the compressor and it wouldn't run at all.
