My GE washer just started stopping just before it is supposed to start  it's spin cycle.  Just sits there until I come in and bump it along a bit.  Can anyone tell me what I can do to fix it?

Thanks

Take the front off. On the top of your motor is a flashing led ,watch and see what the number of flashes are. You have a mode shifter that has two wires going to the motor, you can also remove the connection and ohm those two wires.

What does the number of flashes tell me?  Do I start the washer and let it run until the lights flash?

Also, what do you mean by "...you can also remove the connection and ohm those two wires"?

I am a newbie at this.

Thank you.

Sorry I was on the run.First the flashes are codes that tell sometimes what is wrong with the machine. At the front of your motor there are wires connected. With the power off unhook the connector that has two wires going to the mode shifter. That is what runs the agitate and spin. Then ohm the two wires and tell us what it reads. In the consul on the top should be a tech sheet .Take the 3 screws out of the top back and the plastic consul slides to the side and off.Do not yank on it the tabs break easily.

Ok, but I don't have an ohm meter.  I will have to see if my neighbor has one.

The motor blinks on and off all the time.
 It blinks faster when running.
If a failure occurs you will get the following flashes:

1 flash bad motor
2 flashes slipping belt
3 flashes corrupted software bad motor
4 flashes failed mode shift circuit
5 flashes bad motor
6 flashes locked motor check for objects between tub
7 flashes bad lidswitch.
8 flashes motor overheated too much soap
9 flashes brake resister is toast bad motor.
May the hinges of our friendship
        never grow rusty.
