Maytag MDE2400AZW Dryer

It has stopped heating (and is only a little over a year old. Grr.)

I am looking for advice for getting the control panel off without damaging any plastic clips. The service manual would be even better!

Thanks :-)

I emailed you the service manual as I'm having some trouble uploading it to the server right now. Once I get a copy uploaded I will also post the link to it.

Thanks! Unfortunately I didn't see an email come through and the link you posted asks me for my whirlpool login which I am certain I don't have :-)

I cleared some emails out of my account in case there was not enough room for the attachment.

I really appreciate the help! O0

This is perfect - the email did come through just now. My mail provider must have had the hiccups.

Thanks again! I will report back with my results :-)

So far the score is ApplianceJunk +1, Maytag -2

ApplianceJunk +2
Maytag -3

Called maytag today and they were useless!

I used the manual to check the heater w/thermostats and heater alone - heater alone was showing infinite resistance. So I took it out and the coil is completely broken in pieces.

This Heat Element appears to be a piece of junk. Hopefully the replacement lasts more than 14 months.

Maybe I should have kept my 30 year old "junker" dryer!!

Thanks for the manual...

What can cause this heating element to melt down like this? We hang half our clothes to dry! THanks goodness we aren't a family with kids, we would have burned through this appliance in a month.

I am furious with maytag right now - so much for the myth of the maytag repair man with no work to do.

If you have not done so already you should check your dryer vent to make sure it's not kinked or restricted with lint.

It's posible that the part just failed on it's own and that there is nothing else wrong too.

Has the dryer been giving you any other trouble, such as long dry times or getting to hot?

No it was operating OK so far.

There is only one 90 degree bend in the vent line and then it goes like 2 feet to the outside. I did check it in late winter just to be sure (mostly to avoid fire risks) and except for a bit of lint behind the "keep squirrels out" cage, the line was clear.

When I opened the back of the dryer yesterday there was a handful of lint in the bottom of the chassis. I feel like this is a design flaw - it must mean that the trap does not catch all of the lint - that there is a way for lint to get around the trap and into the dryer. It also seems like a fire hazard - worse than a clogged line would be in my opinion.

To maytag's credit, they are sending a tech out tomorrow even though it is out of warranty. But it is only 7 months out of warranty and for a dryer under 2 years old I think this is appropriate action on their part. I just hope they actually fix it - it's still too early to celebrate. It would have been much more efficient for them to just send me the part for free (or at least  discounted) but at least with the tech here, I can ask him to check the thermostats etc.

Thanks again for the valuable support you provide here.

Update - Maytag covered the repair, thankfully. I am really hoping that this was a fluke. I do not want to ahve to buy a heater in another year and a half :-)

Thanks for all of your help here!

Thanks for the manual!  My dryer's started making a horrendous burned rubber smell, and I'm getting ready to open it up to see what's up - loose belt, melted insulation, etc.

I'm never buying another Maytag appliance ever.

ApplianceJunk, on the other hand, rocks!

The repair manual posted ....which I downloaded.....gives you a bunch of tests to perform, but doesn't tell you anything about what problem the tests indicate .......rendering it virtually useless....!!!

The manual makes perfect sense to me,but then, I am a technician.
If you would start your own topic and describe your problem we will help you in diagnosis and repair.

Well, it's March. Like clockwork my MDE2400AZW has stopped heating again. Maytag is coming out again tomorrow. I am going to recommend they issue a recall. We clear the lint trap religiously, but somehow lint gets around it and fills the door, which also fills the chassis, and also fills our ductwork. In order to clean it properly, I need to disassemble the dryer to clear it out, plus either climb behind it to clean the duct, or get on a 30 foot ladder to clean it from the outside. I assume this is not what Maytag expected us to go through when building this machine.

If they redesign the door and issue a recall, this could all be prevented. I'm thinking in the meantime of making a permanent secondary filter on the air inlet in the bottom of the chassis.

I'm interested in others' experiences with the lint collection on their MDE2400.

By the way, the link to the manual is down again - hopefully you don't mind reposting it for me and others as this page is near the top of the search results for this dryer.

Thanks!

Thanks!
