I was looking at a stove today with a heating disc that did not work. I did the following test:
TESTING AN INFINITE SWITCH (ELEMENT CONTROL)
1. Set the ohmmeter to the R x 1 scale. 2. With no power applied, disconnect the wires from the control terminals.
Turn the control to the “HI” setting, and you should obtain continuity readings between the following terminals:
L1 and P
L1 and H1
L2 and H2
The switch failed in that it had no continuity between L1 and P but did between L1 and H1
the working elements have a switch that behaves the same way but it works
Before failure the element would frequently get too hot and then have to be turned nearly off to get it to reduce heat.... sounds like the switch....
but could it have killed the element or did the dying element take out the switch on the way out?
continuity test on element disc was open till I got into the meg region 1.94M- guess that's open?
going to order a switch and an element.
sound like a plan?
