Amana From Hades
« on: June 03, 2016, 04:29:45 PM »

Hello,

My Amana washer is making a god-awful noise when going from wash to drain cycle. If I turn it off, then re-start, it goes away and proceeds normally through the cycle, any ideas?

Video of Noise

Brand: Amana
Type: Clothes Washer
Country: USA
Model: PLWA50AW
Serial: 9809031211

Something in the pump?
Belt idler hitting on something when the motor reverses for the washer to go into spin?

What are you doing in Hades?

In Hades fixing a washing machine.. should have done it when the wife asked the first time. :P
Doesn't seem to be anything inside the pump, the flow through the pump is great.
I giggled the idler pulley around, no sound at all..  Is it possible the timer is sending mixed messages?

I doubt it's anything to do with the timer.

Did you remove the pump hoses and look inside the pump?

It's hard to tell from the video, but it almost sounds like the idler arm is tapping on something. It's been awhile but it seems I had one like this years ago that took a bit to figure out and the noise ended up being the idler arm tapping or hitting on something it shouldn't be making the noise, maybe from a stretched out belt or something, just don't recall off hand at the moment.

How's the belt look?

It needs the cam replaced, WP40047402 or 38008.
