GE dryer makes awful screeching noise
« on: August 24, 2009, 03:20:06 PM »

My GE dryer model # DDE8500SBMWH suddenly makes an awful, loud screeching noise. It was in storage for a year and when we got it to our new house and started using it, it began making this noise. It never did before. Any suggestions? Thank you so much for any help you may be able to offer!

Most of the time, appliance motors do not like being idle for months at at time, especially if they were previously in service. I suspect you may have a motor issue, but only an experienced tech would be able to remove the belt and bypass the belt switch so the motor could be run solo. This is how to approach the issue without having to strip down the dryer, however it may need a good tearing down to inspect the front drum glides and rear bearing on the drum.

Getch a good manual and start digging. What year was this dryer bought?
