will not spin
« on: August 23, 2009, 11:06:14 AM »

this washer has been sitting unused for several months. Now when I hooked it up, she runs through the cycles, fills, agitates, pumps out water, but will not spin. The motor coupler is good. I do not see any oil (but it could have dried up? ) I have the manual open. Looking for advice. Could it just be locked up? High humidity could have rusted the clutch? Any help would be great! Thanks

Model 110.23022100

Looked at the manual again about servicing the clutch,it shows how to remove agitator. but  I can't get it off. There is no 7/16 bolt to remove? And am I headed in the right direction?

HERE ARE SOME REPAIR PHOTOS

No need to remove the agitator just yet. How about that lid switch?

I jumpered the lid switch. I also removed the pump and motor, as you described, to make sure the coupler was in good shape.

The coupler is good. It looks just like the pictures of a good one. I reinstalled, and turned it back on. It still does not spin. The motor turns the housing, but not the tub.

I read a few more posts,  and looked again.  I see that the clutch drum spins during the spin cycle. the brake does not seem to move.

look real close on the timer for a small askerisk. Put the pointer there and the washer will agitate without water in the tub for test purposes.

I cannot find the asrerick, but I started the washer on a small load, the agitator is agitating. Is the tub supposed to be moving as well?

The inner tub should not move when the washer is agitating. The brake should hold the inner tub to keep it from spinning during the wash cycle.

How much does the outer tub move?

I see that the clutch drum spins during the spin cycle. the brake does not seem to move.

You may need to remove the transmission from the washer so you can get a good look at the brake.

It should look like this.

Make sure that plastic tab connects with the clutch as shown in this photo.

Let us know what you find.

If I remove the transmission, do I have to remove the agitator first?
And if so, how does it come off? There is no 7/16 nut holding it on.

And neither the outer nor the inner tub move at all.

Yes you would have to remove the agitator before removing the transmission.
I looked up your model number and here is the diagram for your agitator. #2 is the bolt that holds the agitator in place.

This topic has some photos that will show you how to remove the agitator.

On them newer models you have a square plastic hole. You put a 3/4 drive into and turn it lefty loosey till it comes out. Then you lift the top half of your agitator off and then you can see the bolt that holds the bottom half onto the tranny. Get that off and lift out the bottom portion of that agitator, then you can remove the 3 bolts on the bottom and slide out the tranny. Hay you may have a broken plastic piece like the one posted above by fearless leader. Look close at the ear portion that fits into the clutch. The tip breaks and will not catch and release the brake. This looks like the latest style agitator dog and cam kit. See that bottom left hand thingy? That has a square hole in it. You unscrew that part to get the top portion out yer way then yas can get to dat bolt holding down the agitator base.

My brother just had the same symptom. We removed the tranny and field tested it. It made a horrible noise . We then removed the clutch and the cover on the tranny and found the main gear stripped to hell and back. Replaced main gear and pinion and shes runs better than she has in years. AJ has the part priced right HERE
