Error Code 21? Huh?
« on: June 12, 2009, 12:36:59 AM »

We have a Cabrio electric dryer that is a little over a year old (wonderful timing). A load ran though as normal and then subsequently will not run. I ran the error codes and they are as follows F30,F28, and F21 (WTH?).

We tried activating the manual load test and the sequence is as it is supposed to be, but the motor will not run.

I know you don't wanna hear a sob story, but we're suffering financially like the rest of America and are considerably put out because we have a house full of kids. This being said, does any one have preliminary things to check or basic suggestions before we cut into an already strained budget? (I guess I am whining a bit ~ its just outta desperation....sorry.)

Thanks in advance for any assistance,
Melissa and kiddos.

Melissa;

Please feel free to examine a copy of the Service Technical Sheet for this dryer model, which is what we use in the field to do our diagnoses. Yes, we are all in financial straits right now except for JW, who is independently wealthy. (Who else can afford a flood sensor on a john-boat?) :)

Hope you can determine the problem, although it sound like a bad board from here.

Thank you for the prompt response, Mr. Tech. Ever heard or seen an F21 code? (It is not on the tech sheet and seems to only be associated with Whirlpool washers.)

F-21= Maybe your filter housing is blocked with lint. Just a guess.

Both the F29 and F30 codes are related to the sensor mounted on the blower duct in back. See page 10 in the Service Guide I posted above to check the sensor and thermister values according to the chart there. The other code that popped up might indicate a failure within the main control board, but only after you have ruled out the sensor and thermisters would you jump to this conclusion. Since the instructions for doing so are quite clear, this should not be a problem for you.

Its getting interesting opening her up... its been like a treasure hunt. We keep finding some odd items throughout the machine and in strange places: lotsa change, the under wire from one of my bras, enuff dust bunnies to make a hare, etc... We shall see...keep you all posted.

Thanks again, gentlemen, for the input.

The drye must be in standby mode to start diagnostic sweetie. Only the clothes dry indicator light should be on and the dryer is not running sitting all purty and waiting on us to push some magic buttons.

select your fav button on the machine (cept fer the pause/cancel button) and do this to put that mutha in test mode:
Push dat button fer 5 seconds, release it fer five seconds
push it again fer five mo seconds and realease it fer five seconds push it agin fer 5 seconds. If ya did it right ya should get an 88 in dat sisplay winder.
This will give you the falut code which i suspect is the fuse. Check the fuse for continuity and replace it if open.  Retry

This ain't nothing but a plain jane whirlpool dryer with a fancy electronic control. Replace anything in the back that does not have continuity

Tomorrow is the big day to tackle the dryer and the demonic dust bunnies. Is there some place other than online where I can pick this fuse up? (Hey, in the interest of "business", I promise to refer lotsa people to this site...)

You know, you amaze me. Thank you for the offer and the kindness.

We found a fuse (Sears), installed it and now we're getting a CF 1 (I think... I am currently trying to display codes again.)

I was sooooo hoping it was just the fuse.
