Whirlpool Washer won't progress to drain, spin cycles
« on: April 14, 2009, 11:35:32 AM »

The washer will fill, agitate but then will not progress to drain and spin cycles.  The timer no longer makes the little ticking clock sound it used to make between cycles.  Is it the timer? or something else?  Already replaced the coupler and it made no difference.

Usually that's a bad water valve to test it set the washer to wash turn it on and set the selector switch to cold/cold if no water comes out this is your problem. Notice all the rinse cycles are cold.

Usually it's the lid switch. Flip open the console and use your OHM meter to check for continuity there at the lid switch harness.

I am a self taught fix-it in the barely past beginner stage.  I don't own any meters of any kind.  However, the Whirlpool factory guy told me to replace the coupling, which I did but the problem was still there.  Thanks to all of you, I went in and checked the lid switch (which I didn't even know was there!) and it had broken off and was just hanging there.  I went to sears and got a new one for less than $35, put it in, and all is working well now.  Thanks for saving me from buying a new timer and a lot more hassles of taking apart and putting together.  Did I mention I am a 57 yr. old woman?    :)

in all seriousness, if you have little ones in the house DO NOT BYPASS THE LID SWITCH.
