Maytag Performa won't agitate, but will spin
« on: May 19, 2009, 02:45:59 PM »

I have been trying to troubleshoot my Maytag Washer and thought I had the answer...
The washer when in agitate mode (motor and spindle in clockwise motion) makes a loud grinding noise and the agitator does not move. I replaced with agitator base thinking the plastic grooves had worn against the metal grooves on the top of the shaft.
This was not the case.
After reading the repair manual, it must have something to do with the input pinion, clutch spring, dual cluster gears or dual crank gears.
I now have the entire thing apart in my garage (sort of like peeling back an onion) wondering where I should go from here.
Any help would be greatfull.
