Kenmore Dishwasher Unresponsive Touchpad
« on: February 05, 2009, 05:40:28 PM »

The touchpad on our  8 yr. old Kenmore dishwasher is unresponsive.  Quickrinse red light is blinking. I have tried pressing the Unlock for 4 seconds and can't get any functions to work. I suspect I need a new touchpad panel, how is the old one removed and where do I find one?

I really want to help you, but all Kenmore model numbers start with 3 numbers, a dot, then 8 more numbers. You are still missing 3 digits off the end. I can't research parts for you yet :)

I think perhaps adding 3 zeros could do it.  665.15828000

665.15828000 does not come up as a good model number when I search the sears data base.

Are you just guessing at the model number now or what?

I have the Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher Use and Care manual which indicates  model 665.15829.  The label on the inside of the machine is 665.15829000.  That's all the info I have.

Now we are getting somewhere. You'd be surprised at how one digit can ruin your day if you accidentally order the wrong part. Your control is defective and is shown below. If you put the model number you just found into the lookup, you can order the control yourself. Replacing it is easy, and is described in the Whirlpool Dishwasher manual which is on the Whirlpool Forum at the top.

(Mr. Capone...the model 665.15829000 is correct.)

I found the console part on Sears parts web site.  $191. + Are you aware of a better (cheaper) place to buy or is this the going price?  Also which Whirlpool manual am I looking for?  thanks!

I am finding the manual unspecific in relation to console replacement.  I did get the front panel off, but can't see how that gets me to the console.  Do I need to remove the hex bolts on the inside of the door and go in that way?

Put the front panel back on first, then remove the screws inside the door liner. The inner door panel will lift off, revealing the controls..

It looks like a special hex driver is needed, do you know the size I should buy?

I got the console part from Repair Clinic, very easy switch out of the old part.  We washed two loads of dishes and all appeared good.  Late last evening I looked at the dishwasher and the Quick Rinse light was blinking again and the  touch pad was unresponsive; I left the door ajar over night.  This AM I closed the door and the Wash cycle display showed "2", it finished a cycle quickly and is now off. The Quick Rinse light is not blinking.  I suspect some other issues that still need to be resolved.

Use the Tech Sheet to check the Heater circuit.

The control is looking for a particular rinse temperature, so if the heater or thermostat is not working correctly, an error will occur on the control panel.  ("2")

I do have a copy of the Tech Sheet you sent me.  I am out of my league in understanding how to use this to troubleshoot the issue.  I hate to be swiching out parts I might not need.  Any tests I can do to narrow the possibilities?

A little more information.  Last evening the dishwasher has finished its cycle (the green light was on).  I opened the door to check the quality of the wash.  It was at some point after I shut the door that the quick rinse light began to blink.  I am not sure why the machine would be sensing for temperature if the wash cycle was complete.
