Older Speed Queen electric dryer model NE7513L with s/n S14816878

The above dryer was given to me for use as it is but the control panel is slightly unusual. It has a rotary dial for time and cycle selection. It also has a panel  next to the rotary dial with 4 lights in a vertical row that are presumably activated by pushing a button/light for a heat selection. The top button/light is the hottest and the bottom of the 4 is the lowest heat. The buttons do not light up but the heat function works for each one. When I push the top button/light heat is activated. When I push the next lower button There is a slight flash of light and heat is activated . The same for the next lower button/light.. I am looking for an explanation for the operation of this control panel . If anyone has info on it I would appreciate it. As this is a quite old dryer I dont wish to spend much money on it since it does work to dry clothes and runs smooth and quiet. All dirt and lint was cleaned out and the belt replaced.  Help .

The folks at Speed Queen said it is too old and the 4 button  heat indicator control panel is no longer available  .Since it still works to heat and turns the drum properly I will not  mess with it. According to the factory this machine is about 40 plus years old. Works pretty good and is clean inside and out.
