Whirlpool WTW6300DW0 Washer Problem - HELP
« on: April 29, 2022, 11:43:37 AM »

Greetings

Sorry for a long post

I am new hear and trying to seek guidance.
I have a Whirlpool WTW6300DW0 washer.

A month ago, the washer started having problems completing a wash.
The timer keeps extending the runtime.
The agitator will not move even though I can hear the motor moving under the spin basket

I have done numerous troubleshooting.
- Wash Plate removed, cleaned the surrounding & the wash plate gear & also replaced with a new wash plate
- Wash Basket removed, cleaned the basket and gear that spins the basket

Found mildew and dirt after the top 2 removals.  Did not find any clogged garment or large debris that can cause or prevent the agitator to move. After reassembled, did a test wash and the same problem.

Next set of troubleshooting, took apart the Motor cover with the magnets,  Stator, and even the Transmission/Gear Case & assembly (from the wash tub).
- Motor cover appears in good condition, magnets are all in placed
- Stator coils looks in good condition, and coils intact, also measured the resistant between the stator contacts (9.6 - 9.8 ohms)
- Transmission/Gear Case, appears intact and no leakage.  Looking from the bottom, the Inner Gear does turn the Agitator Gear, the Outer Gear does turn the Spin Basket Gear.  Turning by hand did not yield grinding sound. Seem normal
- Replaced the clutch (thinking that this is the culprit that prevents engaging the agitator or spin gears)

After reassembled, did a test wash.
Initially appeared promising.  The agitator rotated and Wash basket spun at low speed before the water started flowing.
Then the same problem occurred. The timer took a long time and extended a few times.
After the count down to 20+ mins, I hear the bottom motor moving, the Wash basket did vibrate when the motor moved.  BUT the agitator did not move.  Looks like the agitator gear did not engage again.  If I waited further, I suspect the spin will not engage too.

Before I start replacing more components, any suggestions?

Do I have a failed Transmission/Gear Case?
Do I have a failed control board?
Pump seems fine as water seems to be extracted and drained during the long waiting period

Apologize for the long post.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

I'm not getting any hits for your model number.  Please check it carefully and repost it.

Have you tried getting error code(s) from your machine?  There's a booklet inside the cabinet at the top left that will explain how to put washer in service mode and retrieve error codes.  You'll have to lift up the entire top to get the booklet.

Sorry, my typo.

This is the Whirlpool Cabrio WTW7300DW0 upright washer

During the early troubleshooting efforts, I did see F7E9
After I had removed the washplate and cleaned it, I had cleared the error and it went away.
Subsequently saw F7E3 error and after worked on the Clutch replacement, that error code was cleared

With the unit reassembled after the clutch replacement, the problem still remained with hearing the motor movement but the agitator did not spin during the wash cycle.
A key observation, after the clutch was replaced, when I started a test wash, the agitator and wash basket did rotate during initial stage before the water was discharged for the filling stage.
Unfortunately, that agitator will not spin/rotate during the wash cycle.
I did not look for the error code after this last failure

I am wondering if the Transmission/Gear Case is the problem even though it looks intact and when turned by hand, it turns without any problem

This has been a very mind boggling troubleshooting process.

Any guidance???

Check the W10734521 slider.  It should have sharp edged teeth that engage with the rotor.  Check the rotor too to see that the teeth are sharp where the slider engages it.

Thanks.
I will try to pry the slider out from the bottom of the transmission and and confirm all the teeth are sharp.

I have already checked the Rotor cover (where the magnets are) and the teeth are sharp.  It does engage securely to the bottom of the gear that connects to the gear where the wash plate connects to.

please stay tuned on my investigation of the slider

TIA

OK

I was able to pry out the slider.  All the teeth are intact.  The plastic grooves on the slider are catching on the the main transmission gear that spins the Wash Basket gear.  So I think this slider is good.

The interesting point is that when the rotor moves (I can hear the rotor rotating), the wash basket does vibrate but the agitator does not rotate.
Is there anything else I should look into ?

So grateful for your guidance

Does slider move freely?  It should be up or down but not in between.

I hope I am able to explain correctly

The black slider ring assembly turns freely with the all the gears moving in unison.  When that rotates, the wash plate gear and the wash basket gear moves in the same revolution.

As for the transparent plastic ring, it goes up/down the gear shaft which the white part of the slider is attached to

Hope this explains correctly

Hi there

Are you suspecting that the slider is not functioning correctly and needs replacement?

Any thoughts on this?

Many thanks in advance

Hi, I double checked the slider.
The white gears does move up and down freely while supporting the turning of the gear case for the wash basket and the wash plate.

There is a slight wear marks (1/2 inch) on the black ring on the slider (just 1 side) but other than that, it seems operating correctly.
Do you think this slider is the problem?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated

I've seen number of Whirlpool washers of your design that have prematurely worn slider, rotor, and other parts so the design is not robust.  All parts that we've discussed so far should move freely and easily with no prying or tapping to move.  Slider should be all the up or all the way down and nowhere in between.  If you run a normal cycle now, what error code(s) are stored?

Hi Dash

As a summary, the washer is currently taken apart to inspect any parts for wear and tear.
- Stator Rotor, checked resistant with the contact points on the plugs, all around 9.6 to 9.8 ohms (assumed this is GOOD)
- Clutch Magnet, no visible wear, but base on all the reading I have done, possible culprit, I ordered and replaced part, did not solve problem
- Slider, it is moving up and down freely and all the teeth are engaging, slight wear marks on 1 side of the black ring, around 1/2  inch

After the last tear down, in my frustration, I forgot to check for the last error code.  Previous stored error codes were F7E9 & F7E3.  They were cleared after I replaced the Wash Plate, Cleaned & inspected the Wash Basket as well as replacement of the Clutch Magnet.

At this time, base on all the readings I have done so far,  Transmission/Gear Case is a suspect and as such, I have ordered a replacement unit.
If your recommendation is that the slider should be replaced too, I will order that too.
The slider appears to function smoothly, up and down as well and it engages the gears for the wash plate and spin basket.  Only blemish is the slight wear marks on one side (explained above)

Should I look into the slider as replacement too?

Thanks for all your kind assistance
As summary, in the beginning, encountered the following error codes and did the corresponding tear down/repairs.

Repair #1
F7E9 - The wash plate was jammed and had to be cut up to take out.  Debris on the bottom of the wash plate and installed a new wash plate.

Currently, I washer has been disassembled awaiting for parts.

Got any updates for us? Did you replace the slider?

Good morning AJ

Thanks for reaching out.  I am about to give up trying to recover this WTW7300DW0 Washer

Short Answer is - no.  Replacing the slider did not solve the problem

I have already replaced the following components in the following order

1) Clutch Magnet (initial troubleshooting)
2) Slider (as recommended by dash)
3) Transmission (following the troubleshooting steps identified in the service manual - within the WTW7300 washer)
4) Control board (following the troubleshooting steps identified in the service manual)

Followed line by line for:
Test #1 - Main Control
Test #3 - Drive System
Test #3a - Drive System (shifter)
Test #3b - Drive System (motor)

After all these validation, and multiple test of the wire integrity from the Control Board at the top to the Shifter & Motor connection at the bottom,  The wires are intact per the readings from the Ohmmeter.
Upon running the 052 (Load Calibration), still encountered F7E5.   Prior F7E2, F7E3, F7E9 are no longer appearing.
Double checked all the wiring again and cleared all the error code.

Ran these following tests, and the following were observed at the Service Test Mode
- 013 (Toggle Slow Agitate) - The Wash Plate/Agitator does Agitate
- 010 (Low Speed Spin) - Only the Wash Plate spun and the whole wash basket remained stationary
- 012 (High Speed Spin) - Again only the Wash Plate spun very quickly and whole wash basket remained stationary
- 051 (Service Diagnostic Verification Cycle) - The diagnostic went through all the steps but stopped at 18(SPIN)
Upon reading the error, still flagged F7E5

I am at a complete lost.

If I had not spent so much on the various replacement components, this washer will have been discarded

Please provide me any other insights? :embarassed:

Dang that sucks, but thanks for the update. Wish I had some suggestions for you but I don't know what else I would do that you haven't already tried.

Maybe Dash or another one of our members will have some additional input.
