Speed Queen washer model AWN43RSN115TW01 with s/n 1802002646
« on: April 19, 2022, 06:55:33 AM »

This Speed queen washer was  sold to me for scrap price since it apparently has a water leak on the underside of the outer tub. I suspect the outlet tube is rusted out where the hose attaches. So far I have not taken this unit apart to verify the problem. My question to any other techs is this typical of this model  ? The unit is very clean inside and out. Also can this be repaired or is the metal too thin to patch ? A new outer tub is very expensive and I doubt if it is covered under any warranty. Your input is really needed.

Tig weld it. But we’ll never know without looking. Maybe mice had a dinner date?

That is not typical for a Speed Queen washer.  What is more common is for the center rotating seal to go bad and leak.  That can be repaired though it isn't easy.

After the cover was removed it was indeed a leak at the shaft seal as seen under the tub. The leak is not bad but probably leaks about a cup of water during a typical cycle. I may sell it as is with the warning that it must be used on a drain pan or in a basement area with a drain access. If I tear it down myself I need info on a seal and bearing kit  and the repair manual instructions. Can someone assist ?

You'll need 766P3A hub, seal & bearing kit.  Kit comes with instructions.  The diecast aluminum hub is usually difficult to remove.  I start by spraying penetrating oil to the drive shaft and then using a 3-jaw puller on the hub.  Sometimes the puller doesn't work so I end up using a hammer and cold chisel to break off the old hub.  After that the job is straight forward.  Rarely do you need the lower bearing.

New parts including a tub and internal parts furnished free gratis by Speed Queen factory. These were installed by the local dealer and the unit is now up for sale.

How did you swing that without proof of purchase? Or are they really that good old fashioned service?

I make sure they understand that I am a number 1 fan of their products and promote the products whenever and where ever possible. I have Speed queen products in my home and after working on many different brands  (1300 units) over the last 15 years I see the good, the bad , and the ugly. The Speed Queen products cost more to start with but are worth it.
