This dryer was given to me for possible repair or scrap. It is very clean  inside and out but it will not start the drum to turn unless it is given a slight push. The drum was removed to check for drag on the rollers and no excess was found. With the drum out the broken belt switch was bypassed and the unit was retested. It would start since there was no significant load for the motor. A closer exam of the motor showed that the centrifugal switch was not sliding easily back and forth on the  shaft as it should. It slides back and forth by a finger push .This mechanism  as I understand it is part of the switching arrangement on almost all dryers from the start winding to the run winding and vice versa. There are normally 2 springs on opposite sides of the centrifugal switch mechanism but one was missing. The small hooks where this  one spring attaches were also  broke off. Can anyone tell me if this motor is meant to operate with just one spring for the centrifugal switch ? I have a couple of older motors one of which is a 1/4 HP and one is a 1/3 HP and both of them have 2 springs . Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated before I do  a motor changeout.

A new blower wheel and a replacement motor were installed with minor problems. The blower wheel had to be replaced because the original one had to be cut apart to get it off the old motor shaft. I am still trying to figure out how to possibly get the spring replaced on the centrifugal switch of the original motor. The small hooks that retain the spring ends are broken . Any suggestions would be appreciated.

An attempt was made to provide an alternate spring arrangement to  replace the missing one to make this motor usable but it was not successful. This motor will eventually be scrapped.
