This Whirlpool bottom freezer fridge, has freon diverter(3way valve),so fresh food compartment
Cooling is separate from freezer. The fresh food evaporator has a motorised air door. The problem is,the evaporator always has freon passing,so the evaporator in the fresh food compartment is surrounded by solid ice.so no air is passing, and not cold. The freezer is good temperature. If the freon is always passing thru the evap, the frost is building up.Since it is cycle defrost, that means defrosting when the freon stops,it is not defrosting because of continuous running.I wonder you experts know from experience what is causing the ice build up.Would that be 3way valve leakage? The drain under the evaporator is good, since I poured hot water on the evap to melt the ice,all the water is gone.plesse help!I also don't know why there is a motorised air door in the evaporator compartment.

More than likely the sensor that is attached to the evaporated coil
is either faulty or loose put a tie strap around it secure it tightly. Remove frost obstruction, clear drain if needed. I always unplug this unit for appr 1 minute after repair.
