Whirlpool gas dryer model WGD95HEXW0 with s/n M12105313

I was given the above model dryer for repair today which has a damaged door hinge . I dont know how the customer did it but the hinge has 2 pins which are broken off. I will try to salvage it by drilling or punching out the stub of the pins and making new ones if possible. The other problem which I dont understand is a slow turn on of the burner. I checked all the devices that would normally control this function and they all function properly on a bench test. Reinstalling these devices allows the burner to eventually turn on but it take a LOT longer than normal. I am stumped and am looking for suggestions from anyone.

Not sure what you mean by radiant switch ? The igniter works OK just takes longer to turn on ?

Might have a bad set of coils too. Especially if it fires up cold and runs a few heat cycles then fails. Hear a click, glow, off no flame. Bad coils.

I removed the high limit t-stat and the other limiting device adjacent to it on the burner tube and checked them on the bench . They tested OK. They were reinstalled and all the other control items were checked again and no problems were found. When checking the t-stats and the other devices I double checked the wire connectors and found no problems. The gas valve coils were checked and were within the accepted ohm readings for these type of coils. The igniter is working properly and the flame sensor is working properly. All items were put back in place and the unit was hooked up to a gas supply and it works OK
. Not sure what I did but it now works with good heat. I am now working on the door hinge problem . The part with the broken pins is p/n W10208414 and it is available as new for $55 but I am going to try to replace the broken pins as this item is a piece of pot metal and sure not worth that price.

Maybe just a loose connection? just a heads up in the future ive worked on a lot of gas dryers and coils will test good cold but they could fail as much as 20 minutes in when they get hot enough and also a tricky one ive seen many times, the thermal fuse lies in the heat circuit not motor of gas and can test good until you start the dryer and then it'll open so you jump the door switch with cabinet front off check voltage so you dont cook the meter in continuity and complete the circuit. basically if it shows 120 when started its a bad t fuse should show 0 when good. Not sure why that happens on gas but never seen it on electric yet? But hey its running for now its a win. but id let it go 20 minutes and in make sure it still is heating after that if you want peace of mind.
good luck on your door, that sounds like the hard part lol

Thanks for the advice. I will keep it in mind as regards the controls. I tried repairing the door hinge but it did not work and I will probably have to bite the bullet on the new part.

The door hinge part with p/n W10208414 is made of pot metal and by the looks of the usage it is a poor design that fails a lot. Does anyone know if there is a better quality version possibly made from steel available from another supplier instead of Whirlpool ? The price for this piece of shit is not what it deserves.

i see that W10208414 out for like $45 delivered or used of $35 delivered ,e.g.
https://www.partsips.com/hinge-part-w10208414
If you buy parts regularly maybe one of those outlets would have other parts you need with good pricing and you could strike a deal on shipping.
I haven't personally dealt with those folks so I don't want to make a direct recommendation but they have a new york phone number available 9 PM to 6 PM EST.
Given the time you've spent on this I think you gotta go for it. unfortunate door design. give the old style any day.

Nope, they are just pot metal junk. Units too new for quality parts.

The part was ordered from a supplier in Nevada and arrived in 4 days. Installation was carried out and the door functioned properly. The dryer now works well and is ready for use by a prospective customer.
