GE dryer won’t start
« on: November 19, 2021, 02:36:42 PM »

Hi,

Looking for some input,

I have a GE gas dryer, model #GTDP490GD1WS that won't start.

Door light comes on, that's all it does.

I have checked all the typical safety switches. Door, High heat, belt switch, start button, replaced timer.

Found bad power wire coming in, fixed that

I have 120 volts in some locations, but only have low voltage in numerous locations like the start button start button has 2 volts coming to it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Did you check the Idler Pulley Safety Switch if not bypass it or put an OHM meter on it.

Bill does your timer turn without binding? Take the knob off and grab a pair of pliers to turn the shaft on the timer. Most times the Knob cracks and you might think the timer is in position but in reality the shaft of timer gets very stiff - try to turn the timer shaft and see if it starts. GE's are notorious for still timers and they sell thousands of plastic knobs due to the still/STUCK Timer Shafts. Let me know how you make out?

The timer knobs from GE are not very good quality and split quite easily as compared to other brands. I have replaced them many times and if possible I use a different brand if it fits.
