LG Dishwasher with LE error code
« on: November 30, 2007, 04:32:55 PM »

LG Dishwasher Model# LDS5811BB

DW will fill then stop with an error code of "LE" prior to wash cycle. Turn unit off, then back on, the drain cycle works to pump unit dry. I have tried cutting power to unit for about thirty minutes to clear, also with no change in condition.

Any suggestions on repairs?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello and welcome,

Display Condition LE = Motor Error

Possible Cause For Error Occurrence:

Wiring connection is OK?
The Impeller of Washing Pump is
locked.
The rotor of Washing Motor is
locked.
The Blade is locked.

Remedy:

Check the wiring connection.
Replace the cause of restriction.
Replace the Washing Motor.
Replace the PCB.

le means locked motor   disassemble the filter and work your way down to the macerator(steel chopper blade) remove it and see if the side labeled "this side up" is really up, its in english... dont think the chinese labourers paid attention to the warning cause i have seen alot that were wrong way

if it was installed correctly order the complete motor/sump assembly btw you do know LG d/w came with a 2 year warranty right? and some of the water distribution system had a longer limited warranty
read your manual, it states warranty, then price the part, then call warranty depot to ask them their service call and labour to install motor/sump

its not a fun job, you have to remove the machine from the cabinets and tip it over and back a few times to make it all work

i used to work for a company that did frigidaire and LG warranty, left there to work for a retail company, the frigidaire dealers followed me and courted my boss and now he has a friggy warranty contract (i dont mind the friggy product) but i warned him if he takes LG on i'm looking for a new job

it might be a quiet d/w but my noisey 20 year old maytag is always noisey most quiet LG are DEAD quiet half their 10 year life while they wait for parts

i'd spend the what.... almost one thousand dollars? on a maid instead of a machine that spits out motors

btw, take the front panel off your door and look for leaks, the vent tube on the blower is backwards and they all leak in time

sorry if i seem harsh but i expect more from a machine as pricey as an LG that is not servicable without removing it from the wall

I'll bet you find the motor is either locked up or "chunky" when the shaft is spun by hand. I replaced a lot of d/w wash motors. The drain pump is a separate pump/motor from the main wash motor.

 :) ;) :) ;)

Lg dishwasher started getting LE error code!
High Five to the broken wire posts!

Right on the money! Took off the door panel and sure enough a broken wire! Mine was blue. Spliced it back together and works like a charm!

Thanks! Just save me $200.00 for a simple repair.

I have the same problem, I contacted the service contract company to send a technician.  The Tech said it was low water pressure.  Does this sound possible?  Everything else I've read here and elsewhere says a problem with motor or wiring.  Was it just a lazy tech?  He barely looked at the dishwasher.

Help!

Our LG dishwasher was getting the same LE error code.  It turned out to be a simple fix, just a broken wire.  To fix it, first remove all the screws along the perimeter inside the door.  The front of door will come off, there will be some glue holding the insulation inside, just pull it off.  You'll see a bunch of wire at the bottom of the door running through a white plastic guide.  Just above that, a small grey wire and a blue thicker wire were kind of jammed into the tar-like coating of the inner door on ours.  The thin grey wire was broken, the blue one slightly cut.  The white plastic guide unclips to get access to both halfs of the wire. Just strip and solder the broken wire, wrap in some tape.  Simple fix.  I can't really see what would cause this problem.  Hope this helps.

Well, looks like I posted too soon.  After re-connecting the wires and putting it all back together, and being sure that had to be it, I'm still getting the error code.  So either I still got a bad connection or something else is wrong.  Hard to believe that it was working with these wires cut all along and something else went bad.  Guess I'll try some testing with the multi-meter tomorrow.  I'll post if I have any luck.

I had the same broken blue wire problem w/ the LDS58xx, identified after removing the front panel.

The LE code is now completely gone, and the piece of crap is back working again.

Completely sucks that I had already dismantled this to replace the washing motor (that diagnostic flowchart in the service manual is a complete joke), but, hopefully having done that gives the POS machine a few extra months of life. Also like pretty much everyone else, it was necessary to replace the drain pump after the first year.

LG appliances are to be avoided.

My LG, 6810st model, had the same LE error.  Wasn't to keen on peeling the front cover off, but after removing the 12 screws the front 'dropped' off and the wireharness was plainly visible.  After a couple minutes of staring, and not pulling on any of the wires, (1) wire was clearly 'broke'.  A red wire, with the break about dead center of the front assembly.  One end was clearly stuck into the tarlike sound deadening black substance.

It was such a clean break that I wonder if it wasn't a combination of careless handling during manufacture, as well as the continual movement of the wiring harness at close and open.   It is no surprise that the break occured directly below where the wire was embedded into the tarlike substance.

With a wire nut I secured the two ends of the red wire and tested the 'fix'.  The DW is running without issue.

Many thanks to the folks at this site and all who took the time to respond.    O0

I have an LE LDF6810ST - about 4 years old.
I have had the dishwasher go bad 2x with the LE code.

Both times it was an easy fix. I took the dishes out, and undid all the plastic at the bottom where the drain is and the thing that spins and washes the dishes - all the way down to the chopping blade. all you need is a screwdriver. I cleaned everything up. ends out, both times, some sort of string got hung up around the bottom of the turbine - and it collected garbage so it was pushing against the screen below it that protects the chopper. so the motor was being restricted from moving. the LE actually stopped itself from burning the motor out...
anyhow, that took about an hour. make sure you drain the water out first. hit rinse and then start and close it up. Listen for the water to stop drainaing as it always does before it washes - a minute or two. then open the washer. then work in a dry area...

note - the screw for the turbine is lefty tighty, righty loosy...opposite the norm

dont get me wrong tho, this thing is horrible. takes forever to wash the dishes and it never dried them. the water it might save by running longer it wastes in electricity to run so long. its always been loud too.

hold off. that did not work this time
now even with no "hardware" in the machine - just the post from the motor sticking up, the motot is making a terrible noise - a grinding noise. but there is no blade or anything attached to the motor - just the post sticking up, think my motor went bad. oh well.
how do i order one?

I found several wires with insulation cut and one broken. I took pix if anyone wants a copy. Location is near the bottom of the door
