Maytag gas dryer MDG5500AWQ with s/n 66795715EP
« on: August 29, 2021, 03:10:53 PM »

I was given this dryer to see if I could determine the problems with it since it was not working. This unit has an electronic control panel and it uses  a touch pad 15 key type. When it is plugged in to 110 volt it illuminates the various touch pads but nothing happens . It shows 18 minutes  in a time dry but no matter what sequence I enter nothing happens. The off touch pad does not work on this panel to shut if off and I unplugged it . I put on another  used panel and it came up with a different sequence but it does not work either. The electronic panel components show no damage or burned resistors which I have seen in the past. According to a parts supply inquiry the main circuit board is no longer available. Can anyone steer me in the right direction  to make this unit work. It is a shame to throw it away.

This entry is in the wrong category. I messed up putting it in the washer section and it should have been in the dryer section.

I have tried all the sequences listed in the attachment /troubleshooting pages  included with the machine with no success to get this unit to work. All of the control panel buttons respond but no action  to start and run. At this point  unless I find another control panel  this unit will probably be scrapped after I salvage the usable parts internally.

You proved the membrane pad with a meter?

Did you do the board volt checks?

If you don't want to do the checks in the manual, you could send the board away for repair, might get out of it for $70 (if it is the pad or board) but I'd jumper the door switch at the board first then jumper the motor output & gas out to prove everything else works first.

The unit was given away free to a person who thought he had a new panel to  use on it for a repair .
