Kenmore Elite HE5t tripping GFCI
« on: February 20, 2021, 02:12:52 PM »

Hello, I have a HE5t washer that recently had a leak at the drain basket. The leak was my fault as after cleaning out the drain basket I didn't fully secure it. After cleaning up the rather large water mess and properly securing the drain basket the washer is now tripping the GFCI it is plugged into. Does anyone know where I can get a service manual for the washer so I can investigate? I still have the lower access panel off the washer and have verified the grounds that connect just behind the panel. We also tried a different GFCI outlet in the house since we recently moved and our house is new construction. On a non GFCI outlet the washer will successfully complete a cycle and after doing a cycle on the regular outlet we can move it back to the GFCI where it will work to for the remainder of our needs for the day. Seems odd to me but I'm thinking there could potentially be some moisture built up inside of it after the leak causing the ground fault. Would like to review the service manual before I start pulling the unit apart.

Thanks!

When the front panel is removed you will lose the proper grounding.  There is a push button switch that engages the ground wires when you install the front panel. That is why you should reinstall the front panel before using it.  Good luck

Thanks! I saw 2 push button switches on the washer side of the panel. It's working well now that I have reinstalled the panel.
