Thanks, BN880. I opened up the range top and found a burnt connection on the filter circuit board, which is part of the induction assembly. It looked like a mini-explosion, blackening the adjacent relay and coil. And you are right, the induction assembly is seriously expensive. It runs $1200 to $1400. I was lucky and found one for $690 on Amazon, from a 3rd party vendor. If it is not as advertised, I know I can count on Amazon to back me up on a refund. Here's a picture of my defective board.
