Would it work to reconnect the broken end to the terminal?

The wire used in the heating coils is very difficult to repair as it is a nichrome type wire. Once it is heated and cooled during many cycles it builds up an oxide on the surface. Silver solder and brazing might be ok on new wire but not likely to work for you. A mechanical crimp type connector may work if there is room to get at both ends of the wire that have broken. I have used these a couple of times with some success. I can take a picture of the part I use if you want to try it . I have a lot of them and can send you one for the cost of postage. I was able to reopen the existing connector and recrimp with both end wires. Seems to be working.  Thanks

I have ordered a replacement coil as this one looks pretty oxidized.

Good plan. There is no reliable repair for a failed element. Just replace the darn thing.
