GE side by side Refrigerator and freezer are not cooling.
« on: January 15, 2009, 06:44:20 PM »

Hi all. My GE side by side refrigerator is not cooling. My food started defrosting in the Freezer. Soon after I noticed my refrigerator was getting warm also. The fan in the freezer is blowing strong but it's not cold. It hums like it normally does. I don't hear the compresser trying to kick in at all. What is wrong with this thing! :-\

Look on the back side of the freezer wall for the tell tale frost. A sure sign that the defrost heater had failed. Remove the rear access panel and inspect the evaporator coil for ice. Thaw out the ice and inspect the defrost heater for continuity. Easy fix. Let us know.
