Whirlpool French Door refrigerator ice maker over fill
« on: June 21, 2019, 01:40:33 PM »

Model WRF991BOOM00 I put that unit in diagnostics and empty the ice maker then went to test number 45 and done a filll on ice maker and the water is right up and overflowing the icemaker some and coming down into the ice bucket. Checked ice maker error codes and nothing showsJust wanted to know if anybody has seen this problem if possible valve or could the control cause the issue?
Thanks
Larry

My recommendation would be to put unit and Diagnostic and go to ice maker error test and look for a fault there. if I didn't find anything there I would probably put an ice maker in and run it through a test cycle. Most likely to be your ice maker.

No error codes water fine these are not your normal ice maker controlled by UI and control board plus a smart valve. I gave customer estimate to replace UI and Control which comes as a kit and they declined. So I wont know.  Run ice maker test with facia off and ice maker tested ok but when you looked at the ice maker which is the side view from the front the water was just above the mold like you would overfill a glass just above the rim and the cohesion would prevent it from running over. It was weird. But thanks for the suggestions.

Check this in regards to a double fill situation

Question: have you pulled the ice maker compartment to make a visual check of the ice maker? Test 52 will give you the ice maker codes. If the ice maker motor is stuck and there is still ice in the tray but still run the fill test. Water will run over. When running the fill test, the valve should put water into ice maker for 6 seconds.

A bit of advice on this particular design. Once you replace the ice maker, unplug unit from wall for a few seconds. Have experienced more than once where after replacing an ice maker on this design that the ice maker made one dump, stopped and made no more. I work on a lot of these, and after an ice maker installation I always disrupt power for 10 seconds.
