Question on Whirlpool side by side
« on: May 23, 2019, 07:09:03 PM »

Fridge runs and shuts off at 39 degs,, if right after it shuts off you turn the stat to restart it wonít come on and itís not in defrost,,, if you wait 5 minutes or so and turn the stat colder it will come on...
Is this normal ?

What are the symptoms of a fridge starting to go bad

So I turned it to 4 and itís at 37 degs, it used to stay at 35...
now the compressors runs for 15 mins or so and it kicks on when the fridge gets to 39... runs till 37 shuts off.
If I turn it colder shouldnít it run till it hits 35 ?
How do I know if itís getting hot and shutting off too soon ?
Or would it shut off before running 15 minutes ?
Thank you for the help

I have changed a lot of these thermostats for failure to cool or maintain temperature, It's hard to say for sure but that would be my best bet guess.

WP2198202 Yes I agree with theoldstoveguy. Here is the part number and a video how to get to it.Usually when it goes bad or is erratic at somepoint it will stops cooling and warms up and sometimes you can tap it with the back Side of a screw driver on the knob and will come back on.Have you lost food would be my question?

Nope havenít lost good Iím just trying to decide do I replacevit or ride it out.
I turned it to 3-1/2 and its staying at 33 to 37 now for the last day or so...
Should I still replace the stat ?
I just wondered if the compressor was getting weak or spmeyhibg.
I replaced the compressor fan a few years ago and it seems to be working ...
Thx guys

Those temperatures are in the ball park.Clean the condenser coils with a vacuum cleaner and keep a eye on it following the temperatures. Maybe get a thermometer and put it in a glass of water as air temperatures can fluctuate with all the door openings.

Make sure the thermometer is in a glass of water not air temperature.

Your refrigerator works good. Let it work, do not distirb it. Do not tirn on exactly after off. Wait 5 minits.
