Older Maytag electric dryer motor conversion --Model LDE 312
« on: April 22, 2019, 12:43:09 PM »

THe above model dryer was origninally built with a 1/4 HP motor. The dryer I have is stiil in good shape but the motor does not have enough torque to start the drum turning with a load of heavy wet clothes. I have dismantled this unit  cleaned and checked or replaced any part that would cause a drag when trying to start a load. It still growls when I try to start it. I would like to try and find a newer 1/3 HP motor that would fit and work in this unit. Is there a motor  that will fit and work in this unit ?The electrical connections in this older unit are discrete push on type  as compared to newer units that use a single block type connector. Any help would be appreciated.

I always use the OEM and never go back on them. They cost more but are worth it.

I sold this dryer to a person who was made aware of the problem and they said it was adequate for their use .

You can get a nice motor from a Kirby vacuum and zip tie it to the mounts then wire it through a standard 15A/120vac luminary toggle switch and duct tape the switch to the side somewhere.

The use of a Kirby motor sounds kind of crazy to me !!!
