With the bravos and Cabrio direct drive washers, the rotor will resist turning very fast or far by hand. It's an internal function of the motor speed control. If you turn the basket slowly, it shouldn't have much resistance and should turn smoothly and silently.

The tub seal is prone to failure. When it fails, the wash water cleans the grease out of the bearings. This leads to the classic grinding brakes or jet taking off sounds.

Your f51 code comes from the basket rpm sensor either being disconnected, dead, or detecting abnormal rpm. Sometimes they come unplugged.

Replace bearings and seal.  Whirlpool kit W10435302 has all the parts including a new shaft.  They know it is needed by the time the bearings are bad!

I've done more than 50 of these over the last few years, have never had any complaints.  I know some have been out there over 5 years.  You want to use the special installer W10447783 available through your parts distributor.  I have heard of several problems when people try to replace them without using the tool!

Have you removed the four 3/8 hex bolts holding it to the tub?

If you followed the instructions on the Whirlpool site (ServiceMatters.com/instruct) and used the new spacer and washer, using the tool set made for it, you should be ok.  The shaft may feel slightly tight to turn just by gripping the shaft by hand to turn, but no real resistance to turning.  If you really just used the two bearings and the seal without replacing the other parts contained in the kit, that is most likely your problem.
