Whirlpool Washer Bad sound

Trying to figure out what is making this sound in my 1999 Whirlpool direct drive washer Model # LSQ8243HQ0.  I have replaced the clutch and checked to motor coupler both of them are good.  I also took out the inner tub and cleaned up the basket drive shaft and drive block. This sound occurs when the tub has drained and the spin cycle is initiating.  Could it be something in the transmission?

285785 Did you get a OEM part or aftermarket clutch?

Purchased whirlpool certified part 285785. I actually only replaced the clutch band because housing looked ok. Could sound be coming from slipping on basket drive?

Washer gets up to spin speed after about 15 sec sound goes away.

Basket drive.

Are you sure basket drive is making this sound?  I am hesitant to spend $130 on part when I already spent $100 to fix clutch  and agitator.

I could be wrong, but it looks like the basket drive is not completely seated in place, the brake assembly looks like its' hanging down too far.

285790 I guess you put the brake linking kit on right like in this video and not upside down.

Are you sure the noise is coming from the clutch? Or in that vicinity.

Yes the tabs are down towards clutch housing flat side up.

I believe it is coming from that area. There is no problem with any of the other wash cycles. Only happens at start of spin cycles. Could it be something in basket drive or transmission?

Hard to say maybe take apart again and look at the brake lines you put in and see if something has worn down.Or looks  abnormal.

I'm changing my answer. I think you forgot the thrust washer, that would make it sound like a bad basket drive.

I know the thrust washer is there and in the correct orientation.  If I have time I will take the washer apart again and look at everything.  I did remember when I put the Whirlpool Washing Machine Ring
RepairClinic Item # 1388892 on the basket drive the slot/groove for inserting clip seemed worn and I had a hard time keeping it on.

Took apart washer tonight and found 1 1/8 inch retaining ring for brake drive cam in the bottom of the clutch housing. I had mentioned above that I was concerned about the retaining ring staying on. It looks I was right to be concerned. The question now is can washer run without retainer ring on brake cam or do I buy a new basket drive so I can use the retainer ring?

I'm back to my original answer. The bottom of the drive tube has worn off. Now there's no clearance between the brake spring and the clutch. The reason it's noisier at the start of the spin is because the clutch is slipping and spinning faster than the drive tube. When the clutch stops slipping, the clutch and drive tube are spinning at the same speed and the noise stops. You're putting a lot of money into an old washer, but it's a much better machine than the new stuff.

Put it back together and let it run till it quits entirely. Then go from there is what i would do.
