Whirlpool GSS26C5XXY02 refrigerator ice maker not getting power
« on: November 23, 2016, 11:18:17 AM »

I have a Whirlpool GSS26C5XXY02 refrigerator with an ice maker in the door that does not work. I have replaced the inlet water valve as it tested bad on a multimeter. Did not fix the problem. Next I tested the ice maker module jumpering T to H. The ice maker did not work, so I replaced it. I put the new ice maker in and it did not work. I jumpered T to H and it did not work.

What should I test/replace next?

BTW, the ice dispenser motor had burned out, so I removed it. The ice maker should still work without the dispenser motor, right?

Thanks.

I did some further testing. There is no line power to the ice maker control board (between test points L & N). I also tested for line power at the harness connector coming up through the freezer door. No power there either. Does anyone think this is a main control board issue? Are there any fuses in this circuit?

Thanks,

Davidp

I taped the door switches down during testing. And the ice container switch.

when you hold the emitter flap closed does it go solid?
When you release it does it flash 2 times and then repeat?

did you follow the instructions in the tech sheet that dab so kindly supplied to test the emitter boards? on page 38
Edit///
sorry been a long day not sure you have emitter boards or if yours is tested through the UI

Hi mz3own,

I do have emitter/receiver boards, but I do not see any LEDs flashing when I close the flap. Are the flashing LEDs on the emitter/receiver boards or the display panel on the front of the freezer door? In either case, I do not see anything flashing. I have been reading the manuals that dab sent (and I also found the wiring diagrams and trouble shooting guide behind the kick plate on the frig), but they do not cover these points.

I assume that the AC line power is coming up from the control board in the back of the refrigerator to the ice maker. Is that correct? If so, is there something blocking the control board from sending the AC to the ice maker? As I said earlier, I have replaced the entire ice maker module and the water inlet valve. I still am not getting water to the ice maker or AC line power (120 volt) to the ice maker, so I am obviously missing something.

I really appreciate your continued help on trying to resolve this.

Thanks,

Davidp

Can anyone give me some further help? I have $200 invested in fixing a refrigerator that is only four years old. Any ideas on how to fix it would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Davidp

You have to kill power to the fridge, then jump out T and H, plug in, and hold down switches to get this ice maker to cycle. The  Hold far 2 left buttons to go into diagnostics, step 15, open and close the receiver flap by the bucket and see if it changes from 1 to 2.  That we'll let you know the optics are good.  I'd take the toekick off and blow up through the water line.  These are notorious for frozen fill tubes.  There is a fix for it that requires a jumper and or upgraded fill tube per model#.  I can look it up if need be.

Brian, Thanks for your response!

I followed your instruction for testing the ice maker. When I held down the two switches, I got a brief, low humming from the ice maker, but it did not continue to cycle.

I tested the optics per your instructions. I got a flashing 1. It did not change to a 2 when I closed and opened the flap.

I have not yet tried blowing into the water line, but I will get to that in the next two days.

Thanks, Dave
