Maytag 2000 washer - tearing clothes
«

I'm assuming it's the washing machine and not the dryer but when we get our clothes out there is often a big tear in the fabric of a couple clothes. I can't find anything sharp sticking out but it seems like the seal near the washer door is out of place and maybe stuff is getting stuck in there and then tearing. Any ideas what this could be? I attached a picture to show the seal and the gap between the rubber seal and the drum.
Thanks!

Grasp the inner tub with one hand & outer tub with other. See if there is any play between the two. if there is I suspect it will not be long for a new washer as the spindle bearing &/or spider arm are failing.
