Whirlpool top loader not draining. LSQ9030PQ1
« on: June 03, 2015, 09:17:03 PM »

Intermittently this washer goes through the entire cycle [any cycle] but leaves the tub full of water. There isn't anything clogging the drain hose or pump. I pulled the inner tub and checked for a sock etc. Nothing. I've eliminated the lid switch because the timer advances to the end of the cycle. I'm thinking that the timer or the motor may be going bad. The customer said that they don't smell a burn odor and can restart the cycle and it will work fine for a load or two.  Has anyone else come across this problem? I'd appreciate some feedback.  Thanks

Thanks.  The pump seemed to be ok but you made a good point.  I'll try a new pump.

Does the washer spin? If it spins but won't drain, then it's a pump or drain hose problem. If it won't spin either, then it's likely the timer.

That's my problem.  It's intermittent.  When I was there it worked fine.  The customer starts it and then heads upstairs.  When the buzzer goes off they return.  Sometimes it full of water and sometimes it's fine.  Either way the timer goes to off.  They don't know if it spins or even agitates.

Thanks for your imput.

That's a great suggestion.  Sometimes in this business we get tunnel vision.  It's nice to have this forum.  Thanks

I've seen this issue a few times.   Had one that I could push on the timer and it would start working again.  Replaced Timer... Another one, replaced the motor capacitor.  Found plug on motor loose.  Had a wire to motor barely hanging on, seemed it would connect when it wanted to...

Intermediate problems can be hard to diagnose.

Update:

I thought that I had it fixed.  I thought that when I reassembled the motor that I corrected the problem.  I hadn't heard anything from the customer in 2 weeks.  Until yesterday.  I'm going back at 3 today.

Checked it again today.  99% sure that it's the timer.  I discovered that it will agitate without any water in the tub when the timer is placed just after the wash area.  But... the load level switch does allow it to fill to small, med., etc. when the timer is set to the begining of each cycle.

The drain hose goes into a stand pipe.  No backing up that I saw.  It would over flow onto the floor.

It is normal for this to occur in the last couple of minutes before the drain cycle would begin. It is called the dry agitate function and is for testing agitation without having to fill the washer.
