I am not a tech and do not work on washers and dryers for a living but rather I buy, repair, and sell these items constantly. It appears that the newer dryers especially the cheaper brands are prone to failure and they are expensive to repair compared to old Maytags, old whirlpools, old Kenmores, and old and new Speed Queen models. I dont know how the LG and other foreign brands hold up as I dont work on them at least not yet. I have recently worked on a Frigidaire and the motor was a 1/4 HP version and it was unable to run. The motor would growl and sometimes start but most of the time it was DOA. I would like to know from other folks out there if the 1/4 HP motor is adequate to start and turn a drum full of clothes as compared to a 1/3 HP type. I also have a 1/4 HP motor from a Maytag Neptune gas dryer torn apart in my garage with the same problem. Comments are requested.
