Hello.

I have a several (4-5?) year old Whirlpool Gold GI7FVCXXY00 side by side fridge that is building up water in the bottom freezer during the defrost cycle which then freezes up to eventually create an ice sheet at the bottom of the freezer. When the ice builds up high enough to get over the lip of the freezer bottom pan, water just starts to spill on to the floor during the defrost cycles.

I've removed all the ice, but I can't see any drain hole at the bottom of the freezer to see where the water is supposed to be going.

Can someone please help me figure out where the water is supposed to be draining? I assume the problem is a clogged drain line somewhere, but I can't find any drain!

Thank you!

Directly below the evaporator coil in the freezer there is a drip pan with a drain hole in the center of it.

You will need to remove the evaporator cover from inside the freezer before you see it.
The pan under the evaporator coils is no larger then the foot print of the evaporator.
Chances are the drain hole is completely hidden by the ice.

Thank you very much.  I see I didn't take enough stuff apart to get to the real problem.

Is there an easy way to remove the freezer door so I can easily access the evap coil cover? Any instructions / video links someone could point me to would be great.

I am able to pull out the white shelves fairly easily, but couldn't figure out much beyond that.

► What is the purpose of the p-trap replacement in the video? Do I need to do that? The unit in the video isn't the same is mine.

► I also read somewhere that if I turned down the freezer temp, that the drain system freezes up like mine did. I did turn down to -2 in the freezer. When it is at 0, the frozen food thaws too quickly when digging around for stuff. Can the unit really not go below 0 without having probs?

Thanks again!

P trap is very universal! The reason it froze is not due to temp! That's silly
