Maytag Atlantis. Scraping and Grinding Noises.
« on: January 20, 2015, 01:52:14 PM »

Hello
Our Atlantis is about 12 years old now.
Last night it started making awful noises, failed to drain and basically stopped working completely with a full tub.
I unplugged it and plugged it back in and was able to get it to drain the water.
I am attaching some pictures of the bottom of the washer and a video of it running.
Thank you in advance for any advice.

Just an update. My wife said she went to finish the load of clothes from the video and now there is smoke pouring out from the bottom of the washer.
She has unplugged the washer.
I suppose I will be disassembling it this evening.

Thanks very much for any more advice.

Yep, take a good look at the pump. There is a shiny corrugated shim in the pulley that comes out and rubs on the pump housing. It can prevent the pump from turning which can account for the burning smell.
