Older Gibson Upright Freezer
« on: December 26, 2014, 10:00:43 PM »

I picked up an old upright Gibson Freezer Model FV13M3WDFD the other day used (probably 5 - 10 years old I would guess), and of course, I took the guy at his word that it was working the last time he plugged it in.  He claimed that time was only about 2 months ago.  I take it back to my garage and plug it in and of course, it doesn't work.  I would like to fix it, but I am not looking to replace the entire compressor.

When I plug it in, I can hear an audible 'click' from around the compressor which I am assuming is some relay switching, then a very VERY quiet buzzing sound, then another click (like a relay clicking off).  I like tinkering with things and figuring out what is wrong, but electrical and compressors are new territory for me.  Any ideas on what could be going on or better yet, how to fix it?

Thanks,

Brian

Double check that Model number it does not come up.Sounds like it,s going to be compressor relay or compressor itself.
Might be older than that.

You're right.  It took me a few tries on quite a few tries on a few websites but apparently the freezer is from the 75-85 timeframe.  Strange thing is that the model doesnt show up anywhere I can find it.  I took a picture of the placard with the serial number and model number and, although a bit hard to read, it looks like all the numbers I posted were correct.  I will check out the compressor relay and see if that is the issue.  Thanks for the quick response.
