Amana Washer Belt Slips Off

I am replacing a worn belt on an amana washer.  I have installed the belt as per the repair manual.  I have belt number 27001007.  When I have the belt on, it moves fine by hand.  When I turn the washer on in Spin to engage the belt, It slips and moves up on top of the idler pulley and gets stuck.  It almost seems as if the belt is too big.  Am I having a problem with the idler pulley?

Are the tub bearings  frozen?

No it moves freely.  You can move the wheel one direction it spins the tub, the other the agitator moves back and forth when moved by hand.  Also I got the belt on and it worked for a bit on slow spin before it flipped up on top of the pulley.

All I can say is, I hope you routed the belt properly around the idler pulley. There should be good tension on the belt at all times. Be sure that there is no residue left on the motor  pulley from the old belt or it might affect operation.

Thank you for the picture.  I have been trying to find one.  Yes, it is routed correctly.  I am going to go back and clean everything off and see if that is the case.  One thing I did do, the pulley arm was lose from the motor so I tightened the bolt, would this have an effect on things?

Ok,
I have taken it apart again, the belt is the correct one, verified it vs numbers on website for repairclinic.  The pulley is clean, the motor pulley clean and the wheel pulley on the bottom of trans is clean.  The only thing again I have noticed is that the idler pulley moves up and down and is loose from the nut that holds it to the motor, I am assuming this is normal.  It may be what is causing the belt to slip.  Anyone?

I am involved in a very similar problem and wondered how you resolved the looseness of the idler arm on your Amana washer. The arm on mine flops around quite a bit. The belt did not come off but it was chewed up after many years of use. The new belt rides up on the idler pulley to the top so it runs on the lip/edge instead of in the flat surface section ?
