Not sure why you posted this part as a standalone thread but it is a suitable place to ask these questions.

the part here is listed with a gasket but many places it is listed with bearings but no mention of gasket although the same part number applies.

i notice there are inexpensive bearing sets available for these and where the drum had not been damaged i wonder if anyone has actually gotten a set of these bearings and pressed them in.

most applications the bearings aren't too bad but the seal may had admitted some grease.  i guess these bearings are pregreased. but i have had a couple washers where the bearings started to walk out to the back of the drum (at which point the belt fell off since that allows the spinning tub to misalign with the drum.  and i assume it also allowing some damage to the seal. don't have it apart yet as clothes got grease on them and i see some grease in the back outside the bearings as well.

other alternative is just getting a new drum. since the spin baskets are warrantied that means you get more or less a rebuilt machine for about $250 and your opportunity cost.  since i otherwise like these machines and since folks tell me that even the more expensive front loaders have the same pot metal supports that fail in the back i'm thinking maybe i'll stick with the devil i know.

but i'm willing to be talked out of it.  The principle reason i don't move to a newer model that is still made is that i can't find any other models with an analog timer.

a penny for your thoughts. well not really, i guess i'm looking for free advice, but i usually find the informed commentary here worth well more than whats paid.
