Maytag MGS5870ADC gas oven/stove
« on: October 14, 2014, 12:28:41 PM »

The control panel keeps losing power and turning off the oven. I tried to take the panel apart but cannot figure out how to get the cook top off to release the front control panel. Anyone either know how or have a service manual that will show me how?
The controls are in front between the oven door and stove top.

Thanks

Very much appreciated. The disassembly they show in the manual is a model with controls on the rear of the unit as opposed to my oven that has the controls on the front. In looking over all that needs to come apart to get the top off I may be in over my head. I do not have a burner wrench. The last thing I want to do is damage the burners and then have a bigger repair than I already have.

Thanks again.

If I remember correctly 4 1/4" screws at bottom of front panel. Under knobs should be at least 2 Phillips head maybe 4 and lastly on the side of the panel at the top on both side 2 Phillips head as well.( may have to move range forward an inch to see) Looks to be very similar to Jenn Air style. Doing this from memory and my memory is not what it use to be.

I slid the unit forward, removed the screws from under the control panel. Then removed one screw each from the underside of each end cap. That only released the bottom of the end caps. The tops seemed to be attached as well. The end caps seemed to be held on from under the stove top which I could not figure out how to remove. The stove top seems to over lap the top edge of the control panel as well. One of the burners (the one we use most often) comes off easily. The others are pretty stubborn.

The screws under the surface burner knobs are connected to the gas manifold and should come out as well.

to the best of your memory on this model must the burner heads and stove top be removed to get the control panel off? Or was it simply that I did not remove the screws behind the stove knobs?

Burner heads must come off and there will be one or two screws under burner head that has to unscrew too.Just like the manual says.

Turns out the stove top does not need to be lifted and the burner heads do not need  to be removed to get to  the control panel. Even the end caps did not need to come off.

thanks
