I'm not too familiar with older model gas stoves, but recently moved into a place with an efficiency-sized Magic Chef gas stove that appears to be from the 80's. When I turn the stove on, after the pilot lights, the gas keeps coming out for at least a couple of minutes. I can hear a whooshing sound and the entire kitchen stinks like gas. It an automatic light, meaning that a small pilot stays lit at all times, but when the oven temp is increased more gas comes out and the flame grows. Like I said, I'm not very familiar with the older model gas stoves, but this can't be normal for your house to stink like gas every time you cook? I've cooked with newer gas stoves and never had this issue. I looked inside the oven and it's pretty dirty towards the bottom (near where the pilot light is) so perhaps that is the issue? Can anyone give me some advice as to what may be the problem and/or how to remedy it? Thanks!
