Maytag Bravos XL MGDB950YW Repair
« on: July 22, 2014, 07:05:18 AM »

My ~3 year Maytag Bravos XL gas dryer (MGDB950YW) is squealing like crazy when it runs now - figuring it's a belt/roller issue.  Seems like a simple repair, but I haven't seen any info on how to get this thing open.  Does anyone have either the service manual or know of an equivalent enclosure that I can see how to get the front open?

there are 2 tabs that you have to hit on either side of the door using a putty knife.. then the top hinges up allowing you to unscrew the 2 bolts that hold the front on.

the below video is for a whirlpool dryer that is similar to yours, the lint screen is in a different spot, but should give you a good idea of how to get it apart...

I'd look at the belt tension pulley and the support rollers...

It could also be the Front or Rear Drum Seal (p/n 280140 for both) causing the squealing noise (run fingers around the front and rear of drum where it attaches to front/rear panel, it you feel a gap then replace either seal).
Also, you can run the dryer on Air Fluff/No Heat, if it's doesn't squeal then it's most likely the seal since metal expands when heat is applied.
You can order the Front or Rear Drum Seal from
