Check the ribbon connection. For a more reliable repair I would replace the UI and the Main board.
I had a maytag just yesterday that had a shorted ribbon connection hidden under the handle of the UI.

I have had several of these KA like this - all touchpad.   Had one,  replaced touchpad and the new one went 2 months later.     Top Quality parts.       Yeah,  right.

I believe this is one of the models that have the resistive touch control on top of the door if so , there is a tech flash out from WP that tells you to check for clearance between top of door and the under counter mounting screws. Seems that in some cases the control is triggered by the screw head if it is to close to the touchpad. Tends to be intermintant.

hi guys, thank you for the responses. found the problem?  the electronic control was full of ants [yes, the little crawling bugs].  the lady said she had to have an exterminator to her house late last year for the ants.  replaced the  electronic control.  its been a week and fine so far.
