Whirlpool fridge water dispenser
« on: July 10, 2008, 09:49:28 AM »

I have a 1998 Whirlpool Gold side by side. The ice maker works, but I'm worried about the water dispenser. It has started to delay when calling for water. The delay is gradually getting worse. If two people in a row use it, the second person doesn't have a delay.

I'd like to fix it before it breaks completely.

Any ideas?

Check for water under the refrigerator. A delay usually indicates a leak in the discharge tubing from the cold water reservoir to the dispenser.

I would like to say that the water inlet valve opens to supply water to the dispenser. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if the water pressure is too low, the water valve will not open. The valve requires at least 20psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multimeter to test the water inlet valve for continuity. If the water inlet valve does not have continuity, replace it. Check for water under the refrigerator. A delay usually indicates a leak in the discharge tubing from the cold water reservoir to the dispenser.
