Samsung DW80F600 delicate light blinking - drain error
« on: July 06, 2014, 01:59:55 PM »

i have a samsung dw80f600 purchased in december. delicate light started blinking during random cycles and dishwasher will not complete a full cycle. it seems to be draining just fine though... any ideas of what else could cause this error?

requested repair online and a service tech was sent out july 2014. they replaced an unidentified part and the main system board. dishwasher then worked fine up until about a week ago. now its giving the same drain error. what to do? i requested service via samsung again but now its out of warranty by about 3 weeks... wondering if theres some sort of warranty on the repairs that were done last july (and if this is going to be a problem every 6 months)

Dirty ecs sensor. No need to replace it.  The main pcb was more than likely replaced for updated software.

What did you do to fix it? We're running into the same issue. Bought a house with the brand new dishwasher, but we don't have the receipt for it, so Samsung won't let us do the warranty service.

I removed the sensor and there was some slimy buildup on it. just scrubbed that off, put sensor back into place and that solved the problem. it's kind of a pain to get to tho. accessed only from the underside of the dishwasher. make sure you don't drop the o ring when removing the sensor as I did. took me longer to find that than it did to do everything else.

Disassemble from the inside next time silly, takes 10 minutes and I don't even think about any leaking orings, scratched floors or water lines that were too short

I tried telling fellow techs my way, they insisted on pulling the unit haha. These are also the techs that replace drain pumps for smelly front loads and thermistors for low frost pattern. Haha :(

Domain I had a conversation about this matter with the tech support line. They reprogrammed the main board to ignore the ecs sensor so no more pulling the sensor and cleaning it every few months. Need to replace the main board and it will fix the issue once and for all.

I have this "glorious" dishwasher and had the sensor replaced under warranty the first time, now 6 months later out of warranty I used the knowledge of this site to clean it off and got it working again.

Thanks Domain for pointing out you can access the sensor from the inside.

Anyways, I'm trying to think of a permanent fix for this.  My understanding is that the 2014 main boards are programmed to not even look at this sensor anymore.

Does anyone know what exactly this sensor does and how it works?  Does it just monitor the level of water after the drain cycle or does it do other functions (I'm guess maybe no since the new board ignores this sensor)

According to the wire schematic located here
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vz477loppo9vg4e/DW80F600.pdf?dl=0

Is the sensor the one of the far left (labeled Sensor Level __)?  If so, pin 1 goes to the low R on the board.  Does this normally get 5V when the sensor is "meet"?  If so could I just jumper pin 3 to 1 so it sees 5V all the time?

My second theory of fixing it is to buy a new sensor ($30) and plug it into the harness and not install it into the dishwasher, leaving the dirty one to plug the hole.  Again, I'm not sure if the sensor is used during other cycles which this could have an adverse effect.

I don't want to install a new board since it's 300 bucks and I paid a little over 400 for the dishwasher.

Thanks for your replies.

It acts as a turbitity sensor . Monitors the dirt in the water so when using smart wash it knows if it needs to lengthen or shorten the wash cycle. At least that is what I've been told. Lol
Not sure how that is taken into consideration with the reprogrammed main board

Thanks for letting me know which sensor it is.  What idiotic engineering, of course crap will build up there!  It must be some optic eye that checks how much light passes through the water.   Now I wonder if I wire up another sensor and not install it will work.  I just may.

Ecs sensor is NOT a
turbidity sensor.  Water level and temp.

Then it is the sensor on the far left on the schematic which is what I thought.  The only way I can think of how it measures the water level is by pressure.  Food must clog the pressure port and trick it into thinking is full of water.  Sending 5V to the Low R pin might work.

I wonder too if I removed the "hood" that sits over the sensor if that would help wash the grime off.  I'm assuming Samsung is not going to issue a recall as they should but there will inevitably be a class action lawsuit in the future.

I know it only takes a few minutes to unscrew and clean but it's still kinda a pain.
