Roper model #RAB4232D no spin or agitate
« on: March 28, 2014, 02:01:04 PM »

18 yr old washer. Replaced the coupler in Aug. with the new and improved one that has the metal insert. Wife say the last few weeks it's been out of balance on every load. One time she said it was banging so much that it made the lint catcher/agitator pop off and hit the underside of the lid. It did break a couple of the tabs off the lint catcher/agitator, but was still functional even though it didn't lock on anymore. Last week I went into the laundry room and heard the motor running but no agitation. Move the knob to spin, same thing. It did drain the water.
I was going to replace it with a Speen Queen but the price scares me. Being it's 18 yrs old, bottom of the line model, is it worth it to fix it?

Ok, I just disassembled it and found that the improved coupling with the metal inside was completely rounded off. The DD was gone. Has anyone else seen this before after only being installed for 7 months?

Also both the shafts on the motor and on the transmission side move freely.

I only use OEM couplers--others don't last long.

Lots of junk couplers out there. Only buy genuine Whirlpool FSP.

Would the coupling going bad lead to the washer being unbalanced?
