From what you describe I would say it is the timer.

I have a copy of the Maytag Atlantis Manual that I will share with you.
Be sure and let us know if the timer actually solves this problem, as I am still convinced of a lid switch issue.
I believe there was mention of the timer going all the way through the cycle in the first post, and that it was necessary to restart the cycle again to make it work.
